Day hike checklist: what to pack for a hike

A day hike needs 8 things: water, snacks, rain jacket, sunscreen, first aid kit, power bank, cap and hiking poles. That is the “Hiking” template in PackTheDay. Tick it off as you pack and change it however you like.

Hiking

8 things

  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Rain jacket
  • Sunscreen
  • First aid kit
  • Power bank
  • Cap
  • Hiking poles

Why the water comes first

Water comes first, then snacks and a rain jacket: these are the things nobody can replace on the trail. First aid kit and power bank follow. The hiking poles come last, because not every route needs them. PackTheDay grew out of trips like these: before our hikes, something was always missing.

How it runs in PackTheDay

The list is made for a day hike. It does not reset by itself and waits for the next one.

Questions about this list

Then you combine: the “Camping” template brings tent, sleeping bag and stove, “Overnight stay” the things for one night away. Items can be added freely.
